VHS Jack Girard: FLORIDA TODAY Boys Runner of the Year

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]December 29, 2023 – Just yesterday, we were happy to congratulate Viera High School athlete Addison Elwell for being named 2023 Girls Cross County Runner of the Year by FLORIDA TODAY, for her outstanding efforts on the girl’s cross country team.

Now, we are pleased to also announce that on the Viera Hawks boys cross-country team, Jack Girard has been named as the FLORIDA TODAY Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year. Go Hawks.

According to FLORIDA TODAY, “Only one Brevard County high school runner ran a race under 16 minutes in the postseason in 2023, and it was Jack Girard of Viera”

“Girard was a tenth of a second off a 10-second win at the Cape Coast Conference meet on Oct. 19 at Wickham Park in Melbourne. He won the 5,000-meter race with a time of 15:59.8.”

“The Hawks junior finished his year with the best time by an area runner at the FHSAA state event at Apalachee Park in Tallahassee. Girard ran in the Class 4A race with a time of 16:19.9.”

“His Region 3-4A time of 16:31.01 was the best for a Brevard runner that weekend as well, and it placed him seventh in that meet. At the District 5-4A meet, his time of 16:25.0 was good enough for seventh.”[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Jack’s younger brother, Michael, was also named to the All Space Coast Cross Country 2023 team and no doubt there is some friendly rivalry between them. Viera High School continues to impress with the quality of their students, in athletics, academically, in the arts and in science.
